Icon Grills XD702 Maxis Ceramic Kamado Grill, Gunmetal Gray

Icon's Maxis is a big, well-equipped kamado that's easy for newcomers to learn. The top and bottom vents are color-coded to match zones on the thermometer: set both vents to green, for example, and the grill settles into the smoking range. That helps you learn airflow control without trial and error.

A two-tier grate system (cast iron below, stainless above) gives 724 sq. in. of cooking space, a lot for a kamado. The included lava stone works as a heat deflector for indirect cooking and smoking. Lighting is easy: an electric starter (included) slides into a dedicated port in the fire bowl, so there's no lighter fluid or chimney. It has a spring-assisted Kamadomatic hinge, a locking latch with upgraded felt for a tight seal, and a removable ash drawer for cleanup.

It comes on a 26-inch-wide storage cart with 3" casters, with room for grates and the stone. Two drop-down side shelves have tool hooks, and a flexible grill light and full-length cover are included. The Maxis also works with Icon's QuickChange gas insert (sold separately) for gas cooking.
