Masterbuilt Gravity Series 1050 Digital Charcoal Grill + Smoker

The Gravity Series 1050 solves the oldest problem in charcoal cooking: keeping the fire where you want it without babysitting vents all afternoon. Instead of a firebox you tend by hand, it uses a tall hopper beside the cook chamber. Charcoal feeds down by gravity, and a digitally controlled fan pushes air through it to hold whatever temperature you set, from a low 225°F for brisket up to 700°F for a hard sear on steaks.

Load it with up to 16 lbs of briquettes or 10 lbs of lump, light a fire starter at the bottom, and dial in the temperature on the control panel or in the Masterbuilt app. From your phone you can watch the meat probe, change the set point, or shut the grill down. It gets to smoking temperature in about 8 minutes and to searing temperature in about 15. A full hopper runs for up to 8 hours, and the charcoal you don't burn stays in the hopper for the next cook.

Room for a real crowd

With 1,050 square inches across the main grates and two fold-away porcelain-coated racks, this is a grill for big cooks. Masterbuilt rates it for roughly 45 burgers, 7 racks of ribs, or 17 whole chickens at once. The cast-iron grates are reversible: the ridged side for searing, the flat side for low-and-slow cooking and delicate food. A stainless steel front shelf and side shelf give you a place to set down trays and tools.
